Bidding Hats
WARNING : Please note after July 1st, you need to pass the NEW BASIC Bidding Test.
A basic bidding hat shows that your partner has passed our basic bidding test. In theory this should show that your partner has a reasonable level of familiarity with the basic conventions/principles which apply to the site bidding system.
- This development is unique to this site and there will be ongoing improvements.
- This basic hat provides no proof of general bidding ability
BASIC
QUIZ (PRACTICE)
If you wish to check your understanding
of it, then take our new BASIC TEST which can be taken as many times as you
like until you feel comfortable. However, it will NOT count towards you Bidding
Hat status. So, check your understanding here first and then take the OFFICIAL
BASIC TEST when you are ready.
NEW BASIC
TEST (BASIC BIDDING HAT)
We now have a new BASIC Bidding Test
which you MUST take and get at least 18 out of 20 to pass – and which,
once passed , you will be shown with a bidding hat – indicating to your
partner that you have this understanding. Once you take the test, you cannot
take it again for another 7 days! This ensures that a hit and miss approach is
no longer likely. All players should take this test by the end of June, 2006.
Bidding hats will then be established on this test and not the current test
which will be removed.
ADVANCE
BIDDING TEST (ADVANCED BIDDING HAT)
This is an optional test, which if
taken and passed will show a different hat so that you know your partner has an
advanced understanding of the system. The same rules will apply in that you can
only take this test once per week until you pass.
A further development is that we will expect all $5 players to have passed the basic bidding test. For existing members, the deadline for this will be July 1st.2008. For new members, they will be given a period of grace of two weeks from the time of their first deposit of funds to the requirement that they pass this test should they wish to play in the 5 dollar room.
Health Warning
We reserve the right to remove a hat or a starred hat if complaints and investigations suggest that a player’s bidding is significantly below the standard expected for the level of hat awarded. We hope that all members will appreciate that it is to no one’s advantage for a player to possess a qualification which they have not really obtained in a satisfactory manner.
In other words, all players need to be able to trust that their partner can bid to the standard indicated by the hat. It must always be remembered that all players, including experts, make errors and bad bids and that possession of bidding garb can never guarantee the reliability of a particular bid.
